Dietitian: let’s meet about what you eat

Posted on

To reach your health and wellness goals, exercise is often not enough. What you put into your body matters just as much.

The old saying really is true: you are what you eat. And whether you have really big goals, like losing a few extra kilos, or you want to improve your energy levels, knowing what food is best for your specific body really is key. Maybe there’s a sports event you’re preparing for – knowing what the best fuel is will help you perform your best.

A dietitian is just the person to see. They are health professionals who provide nutritional guidance and programmes to help maintain your optimal wellbeing, manage medical conditions and improve sports performance.

We have a fantastic team of dietitians who practice within our clubs and who are all registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA).

A dietitian can help you with:

Weight management

Developing individual dietary programmes to help you achieve your short-term and long-term goals.

Preventing and treating nutrition-related conditions

Individual dietary programmes to treat and manage conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, food allergies, eating disorders and stomach/intestinal ailments like heartburn, constipation and IBS.

Sports nutrition

Optimising your training, assisting with recovery and enhancing sports performance.

Looking after general wellbeing

Developing dietary programmes to suit your personal needs and help optimise your wellbeing through various life stages, including pregnancy, childhood and old age.

If you’re a member of Discovery Vitality, you can also earn points if you sign up for a nutrition assessment. Speak to your dietitian or medical insurer for details.

If you think you can benefit from eating better for your needs, chat to your in-club dietitian or book an appointment with reception.
