They came. They saw. But only one team conquered.
We gave away 3 team entries to the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. Meet the team that made it to the finish line.
Towards the end of 2016, Virgin Active jumped on board to become one of the headline sponsors of the Absa Cape Epic and its official health club partner. To celebrate, we held a competition where members and their riding partners could win a team entry into the 2017 event. It was in addition to the Epic Battle we hosted.
The lucky winners were:
- Kyle Barthus and Heleen Bosman
- Craig Hulscher and Tony Webster
- Sean Dobson and Chris Trehearn
We covered their team entries, kitted them out with our “Screw It. Let’s do it.” Virgin Active cycling kit and sent them on their merry way. Of course, “all” that they had to do was get themselves ready for the roughly 700km and 15 000m accumulated climb that was waiting for them. Luckily, with our Ride classes, personal trainers and our weight training sections, we could help prepare them.
As proof of just how gruelling the race is, only one out of these three teams made it through all 8 days: the unstoppable, bite-the-bullet, push-through-the-pain Craig and Tony.
Watch them talk about their 2017 Absa Cape Epic and learn from their experience:
Meet our previous Epic Battle winners.
They beat the battle. They earned their entry. And if you win, you’ll be riding with them in the 2018 Absa Cape Epic.
Meet riding partners Andrew Koen and John Bos, and Niven Wood and Thor Hansen. These guys completed and won our previous Epic Battle that concluded at the Grand Finale of the 2017 Absa Cape Epic.
We put them and other teams to the test in 5 Strava challenges and 1 stationary bike challenge. Andrew and John and Niven and Thor showed their worth and won themselves entry into the 2018 Absa Cape Epic. If you make it in, look out for them.
